多瑙河上游的數碼社群

規模與歷史，並非拋浪頭的空話，無數次讀到「踏入21世紀資訊爆炸的年代，資訊科技融入生活乃乜乜物物……」一類文案，除了一句「又如何？」，可以怎麼反應？瀏覽Ars Electronica Center 網頁，庫存廿年來所有得獎與特別提名作品之紀錄，評審取向、科藝界前端的水準及文化視野所在均明白在案，其社會性面向直教我輩自詡「經濟動物」者汗顏：七個頒獎類別中，「the Next Idea」乃為27 歲以下學生專設，被審訂為有潛質的媒體科藝計劃書，可獲頒達7500歐羅資助，設計者亦獲成邀為該中心「Futurelab」工作室的駐場藝術家／研究員，供予實習機會與各種資源上的支援，著手實行其概念計劃，並非務虛空談。而自1998 年起成為此大獎賽項目的「u19 – freestyle computing」，則募集任何以電腦創作的作品，形式不拘，得獎項目則為中心轄下「The Museum of the Future」全年常設展覽，曝光展陳，讓各界人仕予以適切的關注。
從上屆起，Prix Ars Electronica更闢設「Digital Communities」獎項，主張普及科藝的普及應用、成為改進社區生活的中介。主辦者更明言此獎項之設立，乃為打破數碼鴻溝、鼓勵創作資源共用，並倡導「社會軟件工具」等社會性資本的開發，讓更多人達成社區／群體自助。這聽來又理想又抽象，試舉2004年金獎項目之一，就是人所熟悉的「維基百科」，一個實驗項目幾年間演化成甚具規模的知識群體，將極速發展的「科技」募歸為社會實踐的動員力。
再以本屆金獎項目「canal*ACCESSIBLE」 為例，没有超級電腦、亦無須地產商賈附庸風雅，40名行動不便的巴塞隆拿市民，於去年12月期間以手機內置相機拍照存檔，記錄了巴市3千500多個輪椅使用者與殘障人仕無法通過的地點所在，並以多媒體中介繪製一幅「殘障人仕免進」地圖，上載互聯網。弱勢社群自我充權，由孤獨無援的自身經驗出發進而集結感通，聚落於虛擬，於生活中連結，發聲清晰無須政客與事務官員代理！故然，縱觀本屆「Digital Communities」項目得獎名單，始終還是北國歐西的天下，南北分野實在而剌眼，基建於尼泊爾的「Mountain Forum」就在特別提名名單中份外惹人目光停駐，由非洲、亞太、拉美、歐陸與北美地區五個山地論壇連合，以爭取山區居民權利與居住生態之持續發展為宗旨，藉網絡平台組織交流、庫存文獻、策劃會議與出版計劃，如此，是否就是「新媒體」的一個可操作方案？

hey leung, this is one of my beloved prject. http://milkproject.net
they use GPS system to trace a route of a company collecting milk from east europe to produce cheese in western europe… it is a locative art work, a docuemtnary, and a work about food (that we should know its’ original place and ways of production), and people as buyer, should care about farmers who produce the materials for the “product”, and farmers could be able to establish an network for themselves, to form a community of their own.
if globalization is inevitable, this is how we can make it better, to implement fair trade, and to help people being less detached from our food and its productions…
very marxist deep down…
